Introduction to Media: Media consumption audit

Newspapers
  • Which daily newspapers (if any) do you read?
  • Often read 'The Sun'
  • What sections of newspapers do you turn to first, and why? 
  • I turn to the sports section of the paper because I interested in sports and like to keep up to date with all the latest sports stories.
  • What sections do you never read, and why?
  • I only read the sports section of the newspapers because its a interest of mine, I find sports stories more interesting than others which is why I read into the sports section more.
  • What kinds of stories do you usually read and why?
  • I read stories that are usually more humorous and to do with criminal activities that have taken place. I find the stories to be interesting.
  • Do you, or someone else, buy the newspaper you read?
  • Someone else buys the newspaper I read
  • Do you look at the online versions of any newspapers? Which newspapers? Why do you visit their website and not others?
  • I check BBC News to keep up to date with stories that have taken place around the world and in the UK, I also view Sky sports news to check the sports news on a daily basis in the morning and in the evening.

Magazines
  • What magazines (if any) do you buy regularly?  Why
  • I buy the 'Performance VW' magazine because I'm interested in cars.
  • What sections of the magazines do you read and not read, and why?
  • With this specific magazine I read all of it as its to do with a interest of mine and the magazine is based on only cars.

Television
  • Approximately how many hours a week do you spend watching television?
  • 20hrs
  • What times of day do you usually watch television?
  • 17:00-19:00 Monday to Friday and 20:00-01:00 on the weekend
  • What programmes do you like best and why?
  • I like Comedies the best because they're humorous and I find them entertaining.
  • Do you watch alone or with others? If you watch with others, who decides what you will watch?
  • I mainly watch TV with my brother, we both watch similar programmes so its easy to decide what to watch.
  • Do you watch 'live' TV or on-demand/catch-up? Do you use any other devices to watch TV (such as laptop of tablet?)
  • I use BBC iPlayer on my PS4 to catch up on films that have been on or other programmes.

Radio
  • Do you listen to the radio?
  • I rarely listen to the radio.
  • If yes, what stations do you like best and why?
  • The station I like is Kiss because the music they play are the latest songs that I like and are trending.
  • Approximately how many hours a week do you spend listening to the radio?
  • I listen to the radio around an hour a week.
  • What times of the day do you usually listen to the radio?
  • I usually listen to the radio during the morning around 6:30.
  • Where do you listen to the radio?
  • I listen to the radio at home from my phone.
  • What other activities (if any) do you do whilst listening to the radio?
  • I'm usually getting ready for school when listening to the radio.

Cinema
  • What films have you seen in the cinema in the last month?
  • I've seen Straight Outta Compton in the last month.
  • What films have you seen in other places – for example, through rental, satellite film channels (free or otherwise) or through video-on-demand?
  • I watched Southpaw through rental
  • Who else watched the films with you?
  • I watched these films with my freinds.

  • I decided what films to watch.
  • What devices do you typically use to watch films: TV, laptop, tablet, phone etc.?
  • I usually watch films on my phone and laptop.

Online
  • How often do you access the internet?
  • I access the internet on a daily basis.
  • Where do you access the internet?  At home, at college or school, or at work?
  • I use the internet at home from my laptop and phone, my phone when I'm not at home and sometimes from the school computers
  • What are the main sites that you access?
  • The main sites I access are YouTube, BBC News, Sky News and sites for shopping.
  • What are the main reasons for accessing these sites – for example, for information, to make purchases, communicate with friends or for entertainment?
  • I use my sites for shopping, entertainment, information and to communicate with friends.
  • What other activities (if any) do you do whilst accessing the internet?
  • What different devices do you use to access the internet? What is your primary device for accessing the internet?
  • My primary device is my mobile phone, I can access all the websites I go on and can communicate with my friends at the same time.
  • What social networks do you use regularly (e.g. Twitter, Instagram)? Why do you belong to these networks in particular?
  • I use Twitter to keep up to date with the latest news stories and for entertainment uses as well.
